JOHN DAY — Malheur National Forest firefighters resumed prescribed fire operations on the Blue Mountain Ranger District, with ignitions in Soda Bear units 9C and 9G Thursday, Oct. 19, and continuing through the weekend. Approximately 405 acres are planned for treatment.
These units are located southeast of Bear Valley along Forest Road 1619. Fire personnel monitored the units for several days after completion.
Wolf H Prescribed burning is set to begin on approximately 712 acres on the Emigrant Creek Ranger District. This unit is in the Wolf Creek area, approximately 15 miles southeast of Seneca along Forest Service Roads 17 and 15.
Ignitions are planned to begin Friday, Sept. 22, weather conditions permitting. This prescribed burn will continue throughout the weekend into next week. Firefighters will continue to monitor the area for several days after completion.
