Mother files claim against Phoenix after her sons were fatally shot

View Comments
A claim for $12 million against the city of Phoenix and others was filed on behalf of a Phoenix woman who said her two sons were fatally shot in October by police after officers failed to deescalate the situation and left them to die.
The notice of claim, filed in April, is usually a precursor to a lawsuit unless a settlement is reached. The claim was first reported on by ABC15.
The claim named 18 defendants, including the city of Phoenix, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams and 16 additional officers, alleging that they were responsible for the "wrongful deaths" of the woman's two adult sons on Oct. 20 and nearly $10,000 in damage and repairs to her property.
