In a race that for all intents and purposes was over with just under a mile to run, favored Queen Goddess dictated terms throughout in Saturday’s $100,000 Robert J. Frankel Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita and fairly waltzed to an emphatic 2 ½-length score while ridden for the first time by John Velazquez.
Idle since mid-May, the Michael McCarthy-trained Queen Goddess, a Grade 1 winner a year ago on dirt, heads a wide-open field of 11 fillies and mares three going a mile and one eighth on turf Saturday in Santa Anita’s Grade 3, $100,000 Robert J. Frankel Stakes.
“When he broke his maiden he went nine and change (officially 1:09.8). He’s a fast horse,” Baffert added.
