New Southlands Centre vote delayed over access road worries
A LONG-AWAITED replacement for the Southlands Centre has faced a setback over access concerns. The Ormesby Road hub was closed in 2018 and demolished the following year despite outcry from tenants and a campaign to save it from the bulldozers. Now a vote to rubber stamp a £1.7m “New Southlands” has been pushed back until June at the earliest after Middlesbrough councillors shared worries about traffic being funnelled through a nearby estate.
