The Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday denied an application for a zone change requested by the Felician Sisters and their partner, nonprofit Boston-based The Community Builders Inc., to build multi-generational affordable housing on their Enfield Street campus.
An Enfield business is looking to use more of its Mullen Road outdoor area for storage under recently revised town zoning regulations. Connecticut Organics LLC is looking to grow its outdoor storage area from the current capacity of 20% of its 14.4-acre parcel at 18 Mullen Road to 40%. The application, submitted in early September, is for a modification of a special permit for a plan previously approved. In 2019, the Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission approved a special permit for 20% outdoor storage, which was the maximum allowed at the time.
Retail chain Ocean State Job Lot has purchased Elm Plaza at 95 Elm St. and will relocate its existing Enfield store from 25 Hazard Ave. to the former Best Buy space. The 148,334-square-foot Elm Plaza includes a Kohl’s and additional tenants, with the new Ocean State Job Lot store set to occupy 35,199 square feet in the plaza. The Ocean State Job Lot in Enfield Commons occupied 23,042 square feet of space and opened in March 1999. The Best Buy store closed last March.
Plans are in the works to open a new AAA office at the Enfield Commons shopping center. According to documents filed with the Enfield Planning and Zoning Commission, the 10,197-square-foot facility at 25 Hazard Ave. would include a customer center and auto service center. The structure would be built to the east of the existing shopping center, which houses tenants such as Old Navy, Marshalls and Michaels.
