Today on Louisiana Considered, we hear from one LSU astrophysicist who is investigating the scientific impact of one of the brightest gamma ray bursts the solar system has ever seen. Plus, we learn why the New Orleans city government is having trouble spending its surplus of cash, and hear about yesterday’s big victory for the LSU Tigers women’s basketball team.
They call it the BOAT, or the brightest of all time, for a reason. But the origins of the gamma ray burst remain difficult to pin down.
A gamma-ray burst explosion was observed by astronomers; it was the brightest such event ever detected. The event was caused by a massive star collapsing into a black hole.
A gamma-ray burst, which lit up our galaxy last October, was the "brightest burst" ever seen and a once-in-10,000-year explosion, according to NASA.
The phenomenon was the result of a gamma-ray burst; the strongest and brightest explosion in the universe. The burst occurred 1.9 billion years ago, and it was likely the result of a colossal star collapsing into a black hole.
