The first calf, likely about three months old, and its mother, BCX1460 “Black Pearl,” were spotted in Haro Strait on April 18 by Eagle Wing Tours.
Humpback whales are trickling in to the Salish Sea, where they will feed on fish and crustaceans through the fall.
A new humpback whale calf has been spotted in the Salish Sea, just south of B.C., marking the first calf of the 2024 season, the Pacific Whale Watch Association announced Wednesday.
The calf, estimated to be around three and a half months old, was spotted with its mother, nickednamed Black Pearl, in the Haro Strait last week.
