Starchild: Malaysian children are happy shoppers at the grocery store.

Jodie Tan Li Juen, 11
Raise your hands if you enjoy pushing the grocery cart in the supermarket. Shopping for food and drinks at the supermarket is fun because children can learn about different types of food they eat, from fruits and vegetables to biscuits and snacks. Children can also discover local exotic fruits such as the snake fruit or buah salak, breadfruit and cherimoya (buah nona).
The next time you follow Mummy to the supermarket, ask her to teach you how to read a label and compare items. And don’t forget to help Mummy list down the items to buy at the supermarket. This will help her save time and prevent her from forgetting important things she needs to get.

Starchild: Malaysian children share how they save their pocket money

Ashvini Jeyakanthan, 8
Do you know what it means to save for a rainy day? Saving allows people to buy something in the future that they cannot afford now.
You may not be able to afford your favourite book, toy or game now but, if you set aside a few sen or ringgit every day or every week, you will collect enough to get it in a matter of time.
A piggy bank is an easy way to keep any extra coins and ringgit notes we have so they don’t get misplaced. Before you realise it, you would have saved enough to get yourself a treat.

What would you do if you had a million ringgit? Would you want to build you a big swimming pool at home, treat your family to a holiday, put the money in your savings or maybe buy new computers for your school? How about new books for the school library? Or, would you donate the money to charity?
There are many things we can do with such a large amount of money. Let’s read what Starchild readers want to do if they had a million ringgit.
