The memorial at Hope Point, South Georgia, is to find a new home at the Discovery Point museum in Dundee.
The legacy of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton lives long in Dundee and now a memorial to the great adventurer is travelling 7,000 miles from the South Pole to take its place by the Tay.
Shackleton was born in Kilkea, Co Kildare, in 1874 and died in January 1922 after suffering a heart attack on board his expedition ship.
The cross stood at Hope Point on the island of South Georgia for nearly 100 years, before a decision was made in 2018 to replace it with a replica.
