MANILA - Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary Bernie F. Cruz said there is no need to amend the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law (CARL). "The agrarian reform program is not about consolidating lands. The program awards individual land titles to beneficiaries to give them the freedom of managing it themselves and to create more opportunities for them," Cruz said in a news release on Tuesday. NegOcc business sector seeks new hearing on pay hike

BACOLOD CITY - The Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) based in Negros Occidental has sought a new hearing for the daily minimum wage increase as it continues to call for the deferment of the new rate which took effect on June 5. MBCCI chief executive officer Frank Carbon said on Wednesday they have appealed to the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) to recall the latest order and hold another round of hearings to listen to the sentiments of the employers. "Maybe they will hear the reason (for our appeal) and see its merits then they can amend the order and reduce the rate," Carbon said in a radio interview. He said the NWPC has directed the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-Western Visayas (RTWPB-6) to comment on the appeal of the MBCCI. Pay hikes take effect in all PH regions this June: DOLE

MANILA - Private sector workers in all 16 regions of the country will have their salaries hiked following the issuance of orders by their respective regional wage boards which would all take effect this June, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Wednesday. In a news release, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the wage orders that will be effective before the end of June are in Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Calabarzon, and Caraga. The PHP35 wage hike in the Zamboanga Peninsula will take effect on June 25 while the PHP50 pay hike in Eastern Visayas will take effect on June 27. Starting June 30, wage hikes will also take effect in Calabarzon and Caraga, where the monthly minimum wage will be PHP4,000. The new minimum wage rates in Eastern Visayas will be PHP345 to PHP375 and PHP338 to PHP351 in the Zamboanga Peninsula and the minimum wage of PHP350 to PHP470 for Calabarzon.
