Essen Bakery, the South Philly eatery known for its Chocolate Halva Babka, is opening a second location in Fishtown. Known as Essen North, the bakery will open this spring at 110 W. Berks St. Chef Tova du Plessis, who has been nominated for four James Beard Awards during her career, opened the original bakery in East Passyunk in 2016.

Owner Tova du Plessis says she hopes to open the second location of her Jewish bakery in late spring 2023.
