Galesburg Library hosting Essential Skills Academy the next two Fridays

Those looking to get a job, or at least brush up on some of the skills that would land them a job, should consider the Essential Skills Academy that will be at the Galesburg Public Library the next two Fridays. The Library is partnering with Carl Sandburg College's Career Development Center and the Regional Office of Education for this program. The Essential Skills Academy is a sixteen-hour course taught over two days that will teach attendees skills to improve their success rate in gaining and retaining employment. Some of the material that will be covered includes; business and social etiquette, communication, time management, teamwork, resume building, interview prep, and much more. The Essential Skills Academy will be both Friday, August 12, and Friday, August 19 from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. It's free and open to the public but registration is required. Galesburg Library receives Workforce Development Grant money

The Galesburg Public Library is the recipient of $22,000 dollars in grant funds from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 in Workforce Development grants. The funds were utilized to hire a Technology and Employment Specialist in Travis Downs, who will help those who are searching for a job or looking to improve their technology skills. He has set hours at the library and can also help with writing a resume, job searching, filling out applications, creating an email account, computer and phone skills, and more. He can be reached for free tech help and employment assistance by contacting the library to schedule a personalized session with the Technology and Employment Specialist. The library also purchased several test preparation books and resources as well as laptops that can be checked out. Starting in February, laptops can be checked out for a week at a time and will be equipped with resume-building software ....
