By-elections give Mudavadi and Wetang'ula boost

“I am happy with the outcome of the polls. The people of Matungu and Kabuchai have made us proud and sent a powerful message for all to hear. The big victories can only mean that the grand march is now on,” said Mudavadi when he joined Matungu MP-elect Peter Oscar Nabulindo in celebration at Bulimbo Primary School moments after IEBC declared the ANC candidate, the winner.
He predicted more victories ahead, saying the region’s unity has been mirrored in the two by-elections earlier billed a contest pitting disgruntled National Super Alliance (Nasa) leaders – Mudavadi, Wetang’ula and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka – on one side against ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.

Mother vs son: Late Matungu MP Justus Murunga's family to face off in election

“Being rivals doesn’t mean we are enemies, we respect each other.”
The widow of the late Matungu MP Justus Murunga will battle it out with her step son in the forthcoming by-election. Christabel Murunga and Eugene Ambwere declared their interest in the seat at the burial of the MP on December 5 last year. Ambwere is the eldest son of the late Murunga. The two who will vie as independent candidates will battle it out with 13 other aspirants in the March 4 by-election.
Mother and son will fight to win the support of 65,000 registered voters in Matungu. Ambwere tried in vain to get the endorsement of Deputy President William Ruto during the burial of his father. Mrs Murunga said she has what it takes to complete the work started by her late husband. Ambwere, a Nairobi based businessman has been crisscrossing the constituency to endear himself to the voters.

Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has criticised ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga for breaching a promise he made in 2017 not to again contest the presidency.
According to Mudavadi, Raila had told leaders of the moribund National Super Alliance (NASA) that 2017 was his last stab at the presidency.
Mudavadi said Raila had promised that the 2017 presidential attempt was his last, and it would be unfair for him to seek the top seat again.
