THURSDAY, March 16, 2023 (HealthDay News) -- After U.S. pregnancy deaths soared in 2021, they are on track to drop to pre-pandemic levels in 2022, a new government report shows.
The decrease comes after a year when the maternal death rate was the highest in nearly six decades: more than 1,200 U.S. women died in 2021 during pregnancy or shortly after childbirth.
The maternal death rate is on track to reach a pre-pandemic level, but before COVID-19 it was the highest it had been in decades.
