Thinking about studying technology or engineering? You might be eligible for a 3 thousand-euro grant paid in instalments over 10 months. Aiming to promote these studies, Teltonika IoT Group established a 90-thousand-euro scholarship fund for the first-year KTU students who will choose studies in technology and engineering.
Technologies are transforming our offices and homes, the monotonous tasks are being performed by automated machines, and their smooth operation is unimaginable without human supervision. However, despite the growing possibilities in the field, the number of students choosing to study technology and engineering is decreasing.
The recently published European Commission’s 2020 Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) showed that the number of graduates in the field of information technology in Lithuania is only 2.7 per cent. By this criterion, Lithuania ranks 23

To promote fundamental and applied research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), the results of which would lead to the development of innovative products with real practical application and commercial potential, KTU established the Artificial Intelligence Centre. âCooperating with business partners, we will seek to contribute to the development of the Lithuanian AI ecosystemâ, says AgnÄ PaulauskaitÄ-TaraseviÄienÄ, the Head of the newly founded KTU AI Centre.
Although some AI technologies have been around for more than 50 years, the availability of immense amounts of data, new algorithms have led to a huge breakthrough in this area recently. Today, the development of AI is among the priorities of the European Union and Lithuanian policies. Lithuanian Artificial Intelligence Strategy indicates the creation of a national AI research centre and infrastructure as one of the major steps for implementation of the Strategy.

On February 16, 1918, by signing The Act of Reinstating Independence, Lithuania declared its independence. However, this is not the only reason for celebrating February 16th.

According to AudronÄ VeilentienÄ, the head of the KTU Museum, during the First Republic (1918â1940), the tradition was such that the opening of all-important State institutions were organised on the Restoration of the State Day. Following that tradition, on February 16, 1922, the first national Lithuanian university was opened.
Although the University of Lithuania (LU) has not survived to this day, according to Eugenijus Valatka, Rector of Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and the President of the Lithuanian University Rectors' Conference (LURK), it is important to remember that Kaunas higher education institutions such as Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and, partly, Lithuanian Sports University have their roots in the University of Lithuania.
