Vibrant Foods has added to its portfolio of South Asian food companies with the acquisition of nuts and spices supplier Fudco. The purchase is the ethnic food group’s second in less than a month, having completed the acquisition of paneer maker Everest Dairies in March. Vibrant, created in 2020 by private equity firm Exponent in 2020, also has Cofresh, TRS and East End in its stable. Family-run business Fudco, led by brothers Sheilesh and Akhil Shah, employs 68 people across its food arm’s headquarters and factory in Willesden and retail store on Ealing Road, and has remained a family-run business since its foundation in 1979.

The family run London business complements Vibrant’s existing portfolio of ethnic brands, expanding its plant-based offering and strengthening its consumer reach. The latest deal for Fudco cemented Vibrant Foods’ position as one of Europe’s leading Asian foods businesses, executive chairman Rohit Samani said.
Ingredients supplier Ulrick & Short acquired by Novax Clean label ingredients firm Ulrick & Short has been acquired by Novax, the investment company of Stockholm, Sweden-based Axel Johnson Group, for an undisclosed sum. Ulrick & Short will continue to operate as a standalone business with founders Adrian Short and Andrew Ulrick staying on as minority shareholders. The existing management team will remain in place. Vibrant Foods acquires paneer cheese maker Everest Dairies Vibrant Foods has acquired Everest Dairies as it continues to boost its reach into the chilled groceries market. The new partnership will bring Everest Dairies into the Vibrant Foods portfolio, alongside recognised Asian food brands TRS, East End and Cofresh. Already a producer of ghee and margarine, Vibrant’s acquisition of Everest’s brings the family-owned business’s expertise in producing paneer cheese – a fresh, non-aged, non-melting soft cheese used in Indian cooking – to the group. Vibrant said it hoped to capitalise on a growing demand for protein-rich, meat-free products, a trend for fusions of what it described as ‘inter-regional tastes and cuisines’ and the penetration of paneer in Western markets.
