Even After Moving, Tech Issues Plague City Council on Monday – Everett Independent

For more than an hour, the Everett City Council appeared to have been taken over by Martians, aliens or the lollipop kids – with technical issues taking over the meeting and making every councilor and presenter appear to have a very high-pitched and electrified voice. It was nothing new for the Council, which had experienced numerous technical difficulties over the last year when holding meetings at City Hall, but it was unexpected as the body had moved to the School Committee Chambers in Everett High School. The School Committee has met there successfully for months with no issues, but on ...

Steinberg Pulls Nomination Papers for School Committee – Everett Independent

Everett’s Cady Steinberg got the bug to run for School Committee at least two years ago after attending a School Committee meeting, a meeting where she went to defend her sister-in-law – a teacher in the Everett Schools – but was told she couldn’t speak publicly. That ignited a spark in the Everett Public Schools product, who now is the administrator for the Boston University History Department, that finally grew into a real run for the Ward 2 School Committee seat this year. “This is really two years in the making,” she said. “I thought about it two years ago. The team’s original 2020 season was moved from the fall to the spring because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Quarterback Samy Lamothe threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tyrese Baptiste on the opening possession and rushed for touchdowns of 33 and 11 yards. If there is a GBL Player of the Year ...

The overwhelming majority of high school students at Everett High School (EHS) have chosen to stay remote at 75 percent – with less than 100 seniors choosing to come back to the building in person for their last month of school. It is one of the largest opt-outs of in-person high school in the area, with districts like Chelsea at about 50 percent in person. Supt. Priya Tahiliani said that 1,353 students (75 percent) chose to stay virtual in the high school through the first week, which started on May 10. There were 601 students that returned to the building. Of those students returning, the...

School Committee Votes Unanimously for a New High School – Everett Independent

Supt. Priya Tahiliani and the School Committee agreed on Monday night to start the long process of trying to build a new high school in the Rivergreen area, hoping to potentially transform Everett High into a middle school and relieve the overcrowding that exists now at every school building in the district. Tahiliani requested and received permission to file a Statement of Interest with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) to pursue review and financing for a new high school building – tentatively planned for the area in and around RiverGreen Park. Tahiliani said they would p...
