Notes: Brother of Ronnie Bell. Twin of Marqueas Bell. Simone Award. Film Senior Highlights: Hudl. This is Ronnie's brother, so very Michigan fan is on board. That's good, since like Ronnie there isn't much from the scouting services to go on. Via an interview with Ronnie on Sam Webb's show, it was Ronnie himself who started showing his brother's tape to Michigan staff: “I thought I was crazy,” Ronnie said. “Last year, it was his first time starting at quarterback or whatever, and I mean, dude, he was just going bananas. He had like five, six, touchdowns some games. So I showed Coach [Steve] Casula who was on staff last year. I'm like, ‘Yo, will you watch my little brother? Am I crazy or is he really, really good?’ Maybe I'm just biased because he’s my brother. Casula (now back with Michigan as TEs coach) became the OC at UMass, and extended Kendrick his first offer in January. Michigan came along in September. Bell: “Coach was telling me, ‘No, he's really good.’ And this year, he grew even more to became even stronger, more athletic, more comfortable, throwing — whatever, blah blah blah. Oh my gosh, he must have scored like freaking 20 touchdowns in the first four games or something crazy. And so then I showed Coach Harbaugh again because it was the same feeling I was feeling. It's like, ‘Am I crazy? Or is he like really good?’ And yeah, Coach Harbaugh loved him and offered him. So that was crazy how that all played out.” We figured when he committed that a move to receiver—or possibly cornerback or safety—was in the future. Turns out Bell's quarterbacking career didn't survive fall camp. That's un-good news for the class's one nominal (non-transfer) quarterback recruit, but probably a good sign for Bell. When you figure out what position the rest of your life is, you want the rest of your life to start right away. 2023 Recruiting: Cole Cabana

[Scheduling note. Hi. My kid was hospitalized last summer before I could get the 2023 recruiting profiles done, so I'm planning to finish the 2023 class before starting on the 2024s. Plan is to wrap up with Cabana and Kendrick Bell, spend a bit more time pouring over potential 2024 starter Jack Tuttle's college career, then do a class wrap that's only somewhat patting myself on the back for Semaj Morgan (who got a 4th star on Rivals so he's not eligible to be class sleeper). EE. Film Senior Highlights: Hudl. FB Junkies Sr Highlights. Jr Highlights. Rising Stars. Drills. On3 Breakdown. So hi, welcome back to the 2023 preseason! In Cabana's case not a lot has changed in the intervening six months. After a senior year of 2,434 all-purpose yards (1,518 rushing, 472 receiving, 444 returning) and 36 TDs (27/6/3), a lot of people figured he'd carve out a role immediately. But between the injury, running back depth, and Semaj Morgan's emergence in the return game that didn't happen. He spent spring and most of the season injured, coming away with two carries for six yards against Bowling Green while taking a redshirt. The second carry was blown up so here's Cabana's one relevant run of 2023: So let's go back to the recruiting profile! Cabana grew up a Spartan, and their top priority as of the 2021 M-MSU game. Mike Hart jumped into the race in late 2021 and had a pledge by February [insert little brother comment]. Cabana's ranking starting to shoot up in April, and by fall he was Michigan's highest-rated recruit. Miami (YTM) offered but Cabana didn't even post it, instead taking it upon himself to recruit others to Michigan. [After THE JUMP: Donovan Edwards, downshifted.]

Stargazers pointed out Michigan's 2022-'23 hauls since Hart arrived were a big step down from the Haskins-Charbonnet-Corum-Edwards run under Jay Harbaugh under less favorable recruiting conditions. Recruitniks figured Hall was merely the Adrian Witty Memorial cocaine-laced carrot to lure Hall's teammate/M's top edge target Joshua Josephs (who chose Tennessee). Our local coaches noted this was the third time Jim Harbaugh's program took a swing on a low-ranked RB from Georgia, with nothing more to show from the first two than a few fumbly carries by (now-Hoosier) Christian Turner in 2018. Second place South Carolina was all WTF Mike? When Hall fell from his team's second-leading rusher to its fourth as a senior, people wondered if Michigan was trying to back out of the deal. A little odd for a guy from Tampa who didn't have an existing connection to a team thousands of miles away from home. But FSU was in chaos and Miami is Miami and a lot of schools didn't seem to know what to make of Harrell after he started out as an inside linebacker and grew into more of a weakside end. Harrell on what FSU was thinking before they fired Willie Taggart before his second year in charge came to a close: "FSU likes me at outside linebacker, but also off the edge -- kind of the way they used Brian Burns in the defense. A 'Buck' linebacker type." Michigan was of interest, possibly because they were deploying one of the country's most fearsome tweeners, and per Steve Lorenz Harrell "sorta fell into their lap" like Anthony Solomon. Yes, That Miami. English was no five-star but he was the top-ranked receiver in the state. He was all the 7-on-7s and camps. He spent most of the cycle committed to Auburn, had an offer from the Crimson Tide that was evidently committable until another guy on his level filled them up, and had to be dissuaded from a compelling "NIL" pitch from Kentucky on Signing Day. Film: Senior Highlights: Junior Highlights. Hudl. Underclass Combine. Pylon. Receiver week continues with the one currently highest on the depth chart. To understand how Cardinal Ritter Prep went 14-0 last year, one doesn't have to look much further than the senior highlights of Fredrick Moore above. The ball would get into Moore's hands, yada yada yada, 1500 yards and 28 touchdowns. Though Moore has average height for a Power 5 receiver, he stops and starts like a jitterbug. So many of his highlights are simple wide receiver screens where he's slipping by kids trapped in trapped in slow-motion. Since that was all happening in Missouri Class 3, nobody in the recruiting industry was quite sure how to take it. Some scouts were pointing to his track times to justify worries about his speed. Some talked about all the screens and broken tackles in his highlight reels. Others were excited about his contested catch abilities. Or his routes. Quite a few saw the words "Class 3 WR from Missouri that Michigan likes" and decided that's a Ronnie Bell. Everyone saw the sub-180 weight and recruiting rankings, and figured Fredrick's name would behind Derrick's, Rod's, Sherrone's, Joe's and maybe even Hayden's in usage frequency before the word Moore. Then came spring ball, when Fredrick Moore was generating more hype than all but one of the early enrollees, and a spring game in which he started to undermine our Jyaire Hill excitement as well.
