Muscat: Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, has extended the ban on issuance of visas for workers in 87 professions in the private sector for another six months as per a new ministerial decision  385/2019.
The Article 1 of the resolution stated that the temporary ban on recruiting the non-Omani labour in the private sector establishments for certain specified occupations (as mentioned in the ministerial decision 73/2019) will continue for a further period of six months.
Article 2 states that the decision shall be published in the Official Gazette.
The professions to which foreign workers cannot be hired include information and technology, media, finance, sales and marketing, administration, human resources, architecture and aviation sectors. ....

BRUSSELS The Council of European Union has extended sanctions for another against senior officials in Myanmar and others involved in the military coup on Feb. 1, 2021, the council said in a press release on Thursday.
The sanctions are in response to the military coup and the subsequent violence against peaceful protesters, as well as those responsible for the serious human rights violations committed against the Rohingya population and other ethnic minorities, the council said in the statement. ....

LAHORE: A civil court on Tuesday extended till May 6 the stay order in a case related to the ownership of the Jati Umrah residence of the Sharif family.
Civil Court Judge Syed Faheemul Hassan Shah heard a petition moved by Yousaf Abbas, nephew of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The court directed the Punjab government again to file its response to the petition.
Yousaf Abbas in his petition has alleged that the government is manoeuvring the ownership record of the land illegally. He implored the court to restrain the government from disturbing the ownership and possession of the petitioner and others. ....

NEW DELHI: India’s capital New Delhi on Sunday extended its lockdown as the country’s Covid-19 crisis grew with infections and deaths hitting record highs.
The vast nation of 1.3 billion people recorded 349,691 fresh cases and 2,767 deaths the highest since the start of the pandemic.
The northern megacity home to 20 million people and the worst-hit in India had imposed a weeklong lockdown on Monday as hospitals beds and oxygen supplies ran out.
“We have decided to extend the lockdown by one week,” Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a video statement. “The havoc of corona(virus) continues and there is no respite. Everyone is in favour of extending the lockdown.” The announcement came as the healthcare system struggled to cope with the huge spike in cases, with reports of overwhelmed hospitals, severe oxygen and medicine shortages, and patients’ families ....
