The Greater Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce says it is accepting nominations for the annual Business of the Year and Community Service awards through February 4th. Nominations can be made by calling the Chamber at 842-6116, writing it at 121 East Main Street, through the Fairfield IL Chamber of Commerce Facebook page, emailing chamber@fairfieldilcitygov.us, or in person at the Chamber office. The Annual Chamber Dinner is scheduled for March 1st. The Fairfield Fire Department has released details on a Monday morning fire at a residence at 501 West College Street owned by Shirley Wilkerson. At approximately 11:36, firemen were dispatched for smoke coming from the residence, and they arrived on-scene two minutes later. Prosecutors in St. Charles County, Missouri, have filed charges against 40-year-old Hopkinsville, Kentucky, resident Ray Tate, who has been charged in Wayne County Circuit Court in Illinois in the death of Deputy Sean Riley. Tate faces 14 felonies in Missouri, including vehicle hijacking, robbery, armed criminal action, and kidnapping. Edwards County High School and West Salem Grade School are proud to announce they raised just over $10,000 in the past two nights for the family of Deputy Riley. The schools held pie auctions at basketball games Monday and Tuesday night, and organizers said last night the proceeds would be donated to the Riley Benefit Fund at Trust Bank in Cisne. Wayne County Senior Citizen Center Advisory Committee Chair David Savage says the group was able to raise $764,300 in pledges and donations for the project, meeting and surpassing its goal. He says the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission worked on the Rebuild Downtown and Mainstreet Capital Grant and will be ready to submit it in the coming days, but, until the state makes a determination on the application, the project is in limbo. Edwards County Treasurer Debbie Smith reminds taxpayers the second installment of county real estate taxes is due this Thursday. As of Thursday, 85 percent of the total extension had been collected. Payment may be made in person, in the drop box near the courthouse, or by mail. Payment made by mail must be postmarked by Thursday by the U.S. Postal Service to avoid a late fee. Two Fairfield residents were booked in the Wayne County Jail yesterday after being arrested by county deputies. 45-year-old Jack J.
