Two Jacksonville men have been sentenced for five armed robberies of convenience stores in Jacksonville, according to the State Attorney's Office.

The man found guilty of robbing the Elmwood Bank in April of 2021, among several businesses and individuals during a crime spree around the state, was sentenced this week to 120 months in federal prison. According to the Department of Justice, 55-year-old John W. Beck of Peoria was also sentenced to 24 more months in prison in relation to an attempted escape from the Livingston County Jail. PEORIA — A Sangamon County man faces decades behind bars for allegedly robbing the Elmwood Community Bank with a pipe last month as well as committing three other robberies. A federal grand jury sitting in Peoria indicted John W. Beck, 54, of Mechanicsburg in connection with the April 8 robbery of the Dollar General in Buffalo; the Odell Bank robbery in Livingston County, also on April 8, and the April 9 heist at the Fast Stop Store, which is also in Odell.
