. colin powell was a singular figure of our time. to my mind he had one of the most interesting public lives in recent memory. born to jamaican immigrants, grew up in the south bronx, served 35 years as a soldier, rosed to absolute highest ranks and today powell died at the age of 84 from covid related complications and what you will be reading and hearing about a lot i think rightly is how his career was marred as the new york times put it in a speech he gave in 2003 at the united nations where he made the bush administration s case for invading iraq. after the invasion, it became clear that iraq did not have the weapons of mass destruction, and much of his argument had been base ds on faulty intelligence. powell is one of the few people involved in the utter debacle and deception to at the very least publicly seek redemptions to enup to his role. he said quote i will regret it. i will always regret t. it was a ....

To say things are dramatically rather different. you have doctors without borders, people who don t have a dog in the intelligence fight, if you will, putting out their information on what they saw and they have treated in the tragic, nightmarish attack outside of damascus. you have information, they are being much more forthcoming and being quite careful. and again, the major difference here is that george w. bush used intelligence, faulty intelligence, misused it, abused it to get a blank check for a total invasion. well, president obama, and kerry are asking for a much more limited access to go in and have a punitive strike. so it is a good thing that members of congress remember the lessons of iraq. i would hope that one lesson that they and others would take into account, too, is that all the cheerleaders for war back in ....

Question, we did that custodito. we asked them, and they sort of afterwards beat themselves up for not having asked enough questions taking at face value, what was sort of very slim intelligence to begin with. in this instance, though, i have to say things are dramatically rather different. you have doctors without borders, people who don t have a dog in the intelligence fight, if you will, putting out their information on what they saw and they have treated in the tragic, nightmarish attack outside of damascus. you have information, they are being much more forthcoming and being quite careful. and again, the major difference here is that george w. bush used intelligence, faulty intelligence, misused it, abused it to get a blank check for a total invasion. ....

Us. ten years after the invasion, most americans are still very critical of the war in iraq. abc news/ washington post poll, nearly six out of ten americans say that the war was not worth fighting. the poll also found similar sentiments over the war in afghanistan. as a veteran, as a congressman, how surprised are you about numbers like this? or are you surprised at all? i m not surprised at all. i mean, we all know that the iraq war was the war of choice. it was an unnecessary war, and it was a war, really, on two false premises. one, that there were weapons of mass destruction, that our own intelligence said it was no, but our civilian administration championed faulty intelligence. and secondly, the fact that there was a connection with 9/11 in iraq, which there was none. now, those numbers i was surprised on the afghanistan number. that was the right war to bring bin laden to justice. we ve done that now and it s time to bring our troops home. but the iraq war, absolutely not. ....
