Climate change is everywhere. It’s in the melting icebergs of Antartica, in the rising sea levels of Greenland, the dangerously hot deserts of Sudan, the starving polar bears of Norway, and the refugees displaced from the the Pacific islands. It’s also in photographs, and for our upcoming group show, we invite you to submit images that evidence the wide-ranging effects of a worldwide phenomenon. We are firm believers in the idea that with awareness comes change, and photographers have a critical role in halting what’s happening to our planet.

Maine-based photographer David McLain has lived amongst the eskimos of Greenland, harpooned his own food, and traversed the rugged terrain by dog sled. He’s met residents of the village of Sardinia, up in the mountains of Italy, where the people are so healthy it’s common for them to see the age of 100. Most recently, he’s teamed up with a preeminent and as-yet-unnamed healthcare professional to examine what it really means to “heal.” McLain has seen photography fads come and go, but being a photographer for him will always mean two things: passion and hard work.

Marcella Hazan, the recently departed Italian food writer, famously said, “Cooking is an art, but you eat it too.” In recent years, photography and food have collided in a big way, from famous photographers who have taken the unlikely route of shooting cookbooks to others who have used food to build full-blown gallery installations. Now, we’re looking for your images capturing the intersection of art and food, whatever that means to you, from food photographed artfully to art made out of food.

Here at Feature Shoot, the New Year brings with it our Annual Emerging Photography Awards, a competition judged by a panel of leading industry insiders and designed to jumpstart the careers of an elite group of up-and-coming photographers.
