is not just whether to take the cases, but what specific issues, and the timing. let me say two final things on the timing. the parties have stressed urgency, and that is donald trump, and the original colorado voters who have challenged him and the colorado republican party also in this case. the voters have said, please decide by february 11th which is the day before the ballots in kro r are set to be mailed out. the colorado republican party has said, please decide it by march 5th, which is super tuesday when 15 states have primaries, and colorado balloting would be completed by then, and so that is the broader timetable, but for what might happen today or next week, and today is a start of the imperfect decision as to be taken up the cases, and they could give us an order this afternoon, john, but looking at

justices took the bench for the first time since the new year, and as they were then going to go into their private meeting. they handled some routine business first, and then later they went in and they looked at various pending cases, including this one. the one involving donald trump, and whether he should be kicked off of the ballots because of january 6th attack at the capitol. now, they have several things to iron out here. there are several questions that we can get into in a second about the issues. but as you said, the clock is ticking. and what they need to do is decide what issues to take up, what kind of briefing schedule they would have, and when oral arguments would be held. and there is pressure from the groups involved, donald trump says that he would like this decided promptly, but colorado voters who started all of this, can it be decided by february 11th, which is the day before ballots are mailed out in colorado for the and results

colorado supreme court ruling that said that donald trump should be off the ballot. the supreme court has accepted the appeal. it has set out a briefing schedule, and we will have arguments on february 8th. this is very fast. there is a chance that they could turn this around at least by super tuesday on march 5th. maybe even by february 11th or 12th when those ballots in colorado first go out. what is important here are the first two things. the u.s. supreme court is going to weigh in, and give an answer once and for all, whether the constitution's 14th amendment, is looking at barring insurrectionist from holding off, whether that applies to donald trump or not. what he did, is it did not tell us all of the questions that it was going to address. they say they are taking this case. they are going to hear arguments on february 8th. this puts the board in place for this 2024 election cycle. >> paula reid, is with me.

it. as to whether they'll decide it by february 11th, voters in colorado receive their ballots on february 12th. we've asked the court to work quickly here to issue a briefing schedule schedule that allows them to complete a decision by february 11th so that those voters in colorado and elsewhere on super tuesday have the benefit of knowing whether donald trump is disqualified. >> if they do take it, how tough do you think the fight is going to be for your side? >> i think this court has shown a willingness to step aside from sort of the partisan frame on these hard issues that are important to our democracy. we're optimistic that as did the colorado supreme court, that when you look closely at the legal arguments and evidence presented here, there really isn't a close case here. donald trump engaged in an insurrection against the constitution, and therefore under the constitution, he cannot be our president again. >> we'll see what the courts
