Crime and fire report: Detroit Lakes grandmother scammed out of $6,700
On Wednesday, April 7, at 3:14 p.m., on the 20000 block of County Highway 22, Detroit Lakes, a caller reported their grandmother had sent $6,700 to an out-of-state phone scammer. Law enforcement officials believe the scammer had the victim send the package containing the money, via mail, to a vacant residence and the scammer picked it up once it arrived.

Helena Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis celebrates 100 years of operation

HELENA â The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis Helena Branch is celebrating 100 years of operation on Monday February 1. Helena is the only branch location of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
The Helena branch opened in 1921 thanks to the lobbying efforts of Dr. Norman B. Holter and other local businessmen.
The first building was destroyed during the 1935 earthquake. The new building was completed in 1938 on Park Ave. by the current Grandstreet Theatre.
