Owner drops off 19 cats at Michigan City shelter. 'I'm sorry...I have run out of options.'


MICHIGAN CITY — The first task for employees arriving to work each day at the Michiana Humane Society is to circle the building to see if there are any unexpected animals to deal with.
On Sunday morning, that routine survey found 19 cats in four cages sitting outside the Michigan City shelter. On top of one of the cages was a note.
“Hello, I’m sorry I’m having to do this but unfortunately I have run out of options,” it reads, in part. “My health is failing. I’m on the verge of losing my home. My family cannot take them, so I’m surrendering them to you where I know they have a fighting chance. Please do not think ill of me, I already hate myself enough and I hope God will forgive me for this because I will never forgive myself.”
