Local residents share story of receiving the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Vaccinations for COVID-19 began locally in late December. Local residents are sharing their stories of receiving the shot.
Katie Gauer, activities assistant at Fenton HealthCare Center, received the first shot of the Moderna vaccine Tuesday, Dec. 29.
“It only hurt at the injection site and then hurt for a few days after were just muscle soreness. There
was also some fatigue for a day or so,” she said. She’s not yet sure when she’ll get the second dose. Gauer doesn’t have a vaccination card, but she may receive one after her second dose.
“Emotionally, I felt kind of nervous as to how I was going to feel after the vaccine, but I also knew that I would be okay because my doctor did a lot of research and said that it was safe for me to get the vaccine,” she said. “For those that are unsure about getting the vaccination, your best bet is to consult with your doctor because they’re going to know the most information about the vaccination, as well as talk to your employer and just do knowledgeable research on the two different vaccinations available.”
