Robert Laier was a âfine fella and good studentâ who yearned to fly. His dream came true in 1945, only to be cut short in a dog fight somewhere over North Korea. Cozadâs native son was a fighter pilot in the Korean War. He was flying as wingman on June 19, 1951, when his F-86A Sabre engaged two Soviet MiG-15s. Laierâs jet was hit and went down.
