GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) Don Harrie has found a hobby he loves.
The Grand Island man presents people with an attractive artificial leaf, mounted on a wooden base. He calls each a leaf of love and happiness. His wife, Judy, writes the first name of the recipient on the round bases, which are normally used as wheels for wooden toys.
Harrie has given away 493 of the leaves, 175 of them to fellow veterans.
He started out giving the leaves to veterans. He liked the reaction he received. “And it just grew and grew,” he said. ....

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. Don Harrie has found a hobby he loves.

He believed in people, not politics : Former Adelanto Mayor Charley Glasper dies at 84

Air Force veteran and former Adelanto Mayor Charley B. Glasper, once said, “When I leave this Earth, please know that heaven is where I’m bound, so don’t cry for me.”
The 84-year-old Glasper, who served three terms on the Adelanto City Council, died Friday evening at Victor Valley Global Medical Center in Victorville after going into cardiac arrest at home, according to his wife, Evelyn Malcom-Glasper, who spoke with the Daily Press.
“He was five days away from celebrating his 85th birthday,” she said. “Charley always told me that he wanted to live to be 100 so Willard Scott from ‘The Today Show’ could announce his birthday on TV.” ....

His journey began when he had to rewrite a paper for English class as a high school senior in Reeseville, Wisconsin.
George Kohn decided to research his topic on the investigation of aircraft accidents. He wrote a letter addressed to anyone at Truax Air Force Base in Madison, Wisconsin. It landed on the desk of the base safety officer who happened to be an F-102 pilot. The pilot invited Kohn to visit the base. He picked Kohn up for a tour and returned him home the next day. Kohn, a less than stellar student, got a passing grade on his paper and completed the class. ....
