EGLE announced this week that it will soon roll out a plan to keep lead out of school drinking water in the state.
Under the new laws, all school districts must develop a drinking water management plan, install lead-reducing filters on all drinking water fixtures and have the water tested annually. The protocols for child care centers are the same except water only has to be tested once every two years.
All schools and child care centers will be required to implement new rules designed to provide safe drinking water for children, including water filters that reduce lead content.
