“Everybody’s working for the weekend,” sang Loverboy in one of the worst songs ever to worm its way into our ears and the speaker systems of grocery stores and mall food courts everywhere. Though, I hate to admit that there’s some truth in it. Fortunately there will be only songs worth hearing when three terrific artists with roots and pop leanings take the stage for Finally Friday at 3rd & Lindsley for our weekly free lunchtime concert series. Artists have come from the West, South, and East to make this week’s Finally Friday possible. We’ve set up a particularly interesting trio of musical concepts as we feature the hard swinging cowboy country of Wylie Gustafson, the blues-drenched slide guitar of Jeff Plankenhorn, and thoughtful commentary on Appalachia from native son Erik Vincent Huey.

Roots/country songwriters are often students of the art form, but Jaimee Harris is hard core. From her Emmylou Harris epiphany at age five through a girlhood in Waco obsessed with the master Texas songsmiths to her active fandom of today’s scene, she’ll school ya, because she’s schooled herself. Meanwhile, she’s worked her way into some refined company as an artist in her own right, and she’s brimming over with beliefs, insights and aspirations, as you’ll see in the Q&A we had this week.
