A two-story home in the town of randolph, new jersey, is on fire, and it s a life or death call. when they called us, they told us it was a house fire with people possibly trapped in the structure. alan bell, jr. is an 11-year veteran of the dover volunteer fire department. his colleague, louis morales with the randolph fire department is also on the scene. we saw a lot of smoke coming from the first floor and lot of smoke coming from the second floor, in the front of the house. morales learns a woman is trapped on the second floor. he and his team quickly assess the situation. when i arrived, i just saw the randolph fire department on scene establishing water supply and trying to get into the building to be able to make a rescue of the victim that was reportedly trapped. shortly after arriving, alan bell pulls out a brand new gadget, a helmet camera, giving a rare glimpse of what firefighting is like up close. ....

Where the fire started. obviously, martha that is going to take some time. martha: what an investigation, look at the size of some of the homes that were taken in that fire as well. so how are they doing with the actual firefighting? reporter: well, you know, while they are doing this criminal investigation firefighters are moving from property to property, they are trying to knock down hotspots and doing just about everything they can to make sure that it is safe for residents to return. i don t want people to get this false sense of security because they look up there and they don t see a plume of smoke. it s still not safe. reporter: the sheriff who you just heard from says that right now safety is paramount nor everybody. thousands of residents are simply waiting to go back into their neighborhoods to see if their homes are still standing, or if their homes have been one of the hundreds to be destroyed, but since there is that criminal investigation and there are still questi ....

The match that burn down our economy are now complaining that we have to spend more money on firefighting. our economy is in a mess. i would prefer more americans to have living wage jobs so able-bodied parents could pay for their own food. you focused on this for years and years, the middle class has been dismantled, more people are falling into poverty and food stamps and s.n.a.p. are the only life preserver they have. people think it s just a number they re throwing out. do you see it? i see it every day. i would love to hear that republican congressman at a soup kitchen or food pantry, the response he gets when he tells low-income hungry americans that a few billion dollars cut out of their grocery budget is not a real budget. we spend a lot of time talking about income and ....
