NE Iowa Woman Arrested After Accident in Buchanan County
Authorities are charging a Hazleton woman after finding her car in a ditch, then finding drugs in her possession at the jail.
Shortly after 3:30pm last Thursday (March 11), the Buchanan County Sheriff was called out to investigate the report of a vehicle in the ditch near 118th Street and Indiana Avenue, just west of Hazleton.
The driver, identified as 38 year old Kara Ann Kearns, was initially charged with First Offense-Operating While Intoxicated or Drugged, and cited for Failure to Maintain Control. No injuries were reported.

As Kearns was being processed at the Buchanan County jail in Independence, she was found to be in possession of an illegal substance. She was then given the additional charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, and Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility, which is a felony. ....
