Kathmandu: Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli lost a trust vote in the House of Representatives on Monday, in a fresh setback to the embattled premier seeking to tighten his grip on power after the CPN (Maoist Centre) led by Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda withdrew support to his government.

Nepal to halt all domestic and international flights till 14 May amid surge in COVID-19 cases
Kathmandu: Nepal s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said on Monday that the domestic flights would be stopped from midnight while all international flights will suspend operations from Thursday as the country tightened the prohibitory orders amid spike in the coronavirus cases.
In an address to the nation on Monday, Oli also appealed to other countries for vaccines, diagnostic equipment, oxygen and other supplies to help combat the pandemic. ....

China will provide 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal on a grant basis, officials here said on Saturday, supplying the first batch of vaccine aid for the Himalayan nation.
During a telephonic conversation with his Nepali counterpart Pradeep Gyawali on Friday evening, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi assured that China would accord priority to Nepal in vaccine cooperation, according to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here. ....

Nepal protests: Former minister among 188 arrested in strike against parliament s dissolution
More than 180 protesters, including a former minister, were arrested in Nepal on Thursday, police said, as a nationwide strike was staged over parliament s dissolution.
Tensions have been rising in the Himalayan nation since December when Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dismissed the legislature and accused members of his Communist Party of being uncooperative.
Demonstrations have since swelled, with protesters and police clashing.
The nationwide general strike was called on behalf of a faction of the ruling Communist Party by former Maoist rebel leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who helped Oli come to power in 2018 but has since become a critic. ....
