Yesterday, we saw Abdul Hamid Alyoussef grieving for his twin children, poisoned in the attack. Today, he suffered the further agony of burying them. Often the images we see from syria are of helpless victims, caught in a spiral of violence that they have no way of controlling. But today, these syrians became activists. Doctors, rescue workers, children, a silent protest, an expression of dignified rage, an act of self preservation.
