A crowdfunding effort to repair a monument made up of dozens of glass panels was launched on Wednesday. The monument in Dronten, which included the names of 20,000 people who died from cancer etched on the glass, was smashed by unknown vandals earlier in the week. No arrests have been made.
Vandals destroyed the monument to people who died of cancer in the Koningin Wilhelminabos in Dronten. The memorial consisted of 67 glass panels with the names of people who succumbed to the disease. According to the police, the perpetrators smashed almost all of the glass panels, likely with a hammer, sometime in the night from Sunday to Monday.

The amount of solar energy produced in the Netherlands last year rose by nearly half when compared to the year before. The Netherlands generated enough solar power to rise from sixth place among all countries in Europe, to fifth place in 2022. Solar energy used for both electricity and heating represents about 3.3 percent of all energy consumed in the Netherlands in 2022. That figure was 2.1 percent the year before. It is the third largest source of renewable energy, behind biomass and wind energy, said Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
