County working around search for new road supervisor

Following a vote two weeks ago to move County Road Supervisor Eugene Harness back into an operator s positions, Pulaski County Fiscal Court took action Tuesday to keep the department running smoothly while the search for a new supervisor gets underway.
Rather than name an interim supervisor, magistrates approved Judge-Executive Steve Kelley s recommendation to temporarily promote Road Tile Foreman Ryan Price as a second Assistant Supervisor joining veteran Assistant Supervisor Jordan Harris to split management duties until the vacancy can be filled. ....

Area colleges and universities encourage vaccination for students


Though college students are known to have an affinity for shots, leaders at area colleges and universities aren t mandating they receive a COVID-19 vaccination this fall. 
Members of Gov. Tom Wolf s administration announced earlier this month that the state will not require COVID-19 vaccinations for college and university students but are highly encouraging the vaccine, and local schools, both public and private, are following suit and only recommending the shot. 
For state schools, like Slippery Rock University, recommendation is the only option. As part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), they can t require the vaccine.  
The state system has always recommended vaccination, but not required it beyond meningitis, said Kristina Benkeser, the director of Health and Wellness and Student Health Services at SRU. So, it s a little bit different at public universities. ....
