we should point out these are regions that are very familiar with the flooding potential of the passaic. these are low lying areas that often flood. it's really fueling some of those flooding frustrations for the people of new jersey and really surrounding communities that continue to experience these watches and warnings, folks living in and traveling through the region. back to you. >> very dicey stuff. which regions are feeling, let's say, the coldest temperatures right now? >> yeah, behind this storm that po he's tracking the flooding is the cold air. you've got the lake effect snow that's cutting across the great lakes here. the last of the showers cutting through the northeast, but like he was mentioning, that flood threat continues because we're still watching these rivers as they rise and fall. they're saturated from the last couple of weeks that we have had round after round of heavy rain.

it is pulling lake-effect snow across the great lakes. there are some showers left over in new england. the flood threat continues on those rivers and along the coast where those rivers are still swollen from all of the other storms that we had this week. it has been torrential downpour after downpour and you can see the coastal flood alerts where you still have some of the onshore flow. the orange is still a blizzard warning for iowa. not for additional snow, but the fresh snow on the ground will still blow around in 45-mile-per-hour gusts that we still have going on. and that could continue to drop visibility and cause dangerous driving conditions. a winter storm watch is in effect for parts of arkansas and into tennessee starting to change over to warnings as we could get a bunch of snow with all this cold air that is diving southward. windchill warnings are in effect for a lot of the northern plains. could be as cold as 45 degrees below zero. you can get frostbite in ten minutes or less with windchills

with some of the heavy snow and the gusty winds then that flood threat continues to work its way into the northeast. behind it we have intense arctic air that's going to spill into the central plains there. the coldest air that they've seen so far this season, but that as we look towards monday, as we look at the iowa caucus here, we will have windchills, these are real feel windchills up to minus 40, 40 degrees below zero, minus 34 as we head into monday, and when you have windchills this extreme, this dangerous you're talking about frostbite in 20 minutes or less, this is extremely dangerous, life-threatening and it's the first bit of cold they're seeing so far this winter coming off the heels of one of the warmest winters that they've seen on record so, yeah, looking at all of the past caucuses we've seen here in des moines, in will be by far the coldest because we're looking at an average high at minus 4. might not even reach 4 degrees on monday.
