They joined Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team following a call-out by a member of the public, at around 3.30pm. The Coastguard team said: "Paged to a report of ordnance on the beach at Shanklin. Bomb disposal team called to disarm potentially explosive device in Bembridge

THE Royal Navy bomb disposal team has been called to the Isle of Wight today (Sunday) after potentially explosive items were found on a beach. The Portsmouth-based team was initially called about the suspected ordnance, found at Forelands Beach, Bembridge, in the early hours of the morning, and upon arrival found a second item, removing both from the area. A spokesperson for the UK Coastguard said: "The Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team arrived at the beach shortly after 8am for a rendevous with authorities regarding potentially explosive items.
