Green Drinks to discuss reforestation policy Jan. 25

January 20, 2021
Rehoboth Beach Green Drinks will meet virtually from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25.
Keys to Restoring Forests, or May the Forest Be With You, is the main topic. The guest speaker will be Alexander Rudee, an associate with the World Resources Institute.
According to WRI research, 30 percent of global forest cover has been cleared, while another 20 percent has been degraded. Most of the rest has been fragmented, leaving only about 15 percent intact.
But there is hope. A bipartisan Congress favors the Trillion Tree Act. Everyone loves forests. If enacted, three policies that Rudee will explain could help kick-start a robust national plan for carbon removal, and would put the United States on a path to grow up to 60 billion new trees in the next 20 years. A tree restoration campaign of that size could remove up to 540 million tons of CO2  per year by 2040 – an amount equal to the entire annual emissions of U.S. agriculture – while creating more than 150,000 jobs.
