Pegasus: French cybersecurity agency confirms presence of spyware on two journalists' phones

France’s cybersecurity agency has confirmed that the Pegasus spyware was present on the phone of two journalists from the country’s online investigative journal
Mediapart, the publication reported on Thursday. This is the first corroboration of the alleged surveillance row by a government agency globally.
“The study carried out by [the cybersecutiry agency] reached the same conclusions as those of Amnesty International’s Security Lab on the reality of the Pegasus infection, on its modalities, dates and duration,” NDTV reported, citing

Pegasus surveillance row: Editors Guild calls for Supreme Court-monitored panel inquiry

The Editors Guild of India on Wednesday demanded an inquiry by a Supreme Court-monitored independent committee into the alleged use of the Pegasus spyware to hack into phones of several citizens, including journalists, political leaders and activists.
The Editors Guild said that the alleged instances of hacking of phones was an “unconstitutional attack” on the freedom of speech and press.
“This act of snooping essentially conveys that journalism and political dissent are now equated with ‘terror’,” the journalists’ body said in a statement. “How can a constitutional democracy survive if governments do not make an effort to protect freedom of speech and allow surveillance with such impunity?” ....
