Hualien deal would use public land for maritime museum

Taiwan International Ports Corp (TIPC) on Saturday said it would soon sign a memorandum of understanding with the Hualien County Government that would allow it to use 7.4 hectares of public land without charge for a national maritime resources museum.
The project would be constructed over the next seven years at a cost of NT$3.29 billion (US$118.61 million), the company said, adding that the museum, the city’s D Park, a fishing harbor and other areas near the Port of Hualien would be integrated into a large recreational zone in a bid to boost tourism.

Building to start in 2022 on Taoyuan underground rail

Construction on an underground railway project between New Taipei City and Taoyuan is to begin in April next year, the Railway Bureau said yesterday.
The project is part of the Executive Yuan’s Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program.
A master plan for the project was approved by the Executive Yuan in September last year.
The 17.9km route extends from New Taipei City’s Yingge District (鶯歌) to Taoyuan’s Pingjhen District (平鎮), bureau Director-General Allen Hu (胡湘麟) said.
The NT$104.8 billion (US$3.70 billion) project would involve revamping the railway stations at Taoyuan, Neili (內壢) and Jhungli (中壢), and building five new commuter stations at Fongming (鳳鳴), Jhungli, Taoyuan ....

Legislature passes third-stage forward-looking budget

The Legislative Yuan yesterday passed a special budget of NT$229.83 billion (US$8.07 billion) for the third stage of the government’s Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program.
The funding for the third phase, which began this year and runs through next year, was approved after NT$169.65 million was deducted from the original budget.
Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) on Oct. 6 last year told a legislative session that funding for the third phase would be allocated to infrastructure projects slated to be completed by 2025 to accelerate Taiwan’s digital development, and improve the urban-rural allocation of resources to boost rural infrastructure development.
