Yashahime might finally be on the upswing. Except I forgot: Yashahime is where hope goes to die. The animation, voice-acting, and direction all still range from mediocre to outright bad; nothing's changed there. In order to truly understand what makes “The Secret of the Rainbow Pearls” so lame, we have to talk about its writing, and that means the return of ~Yashahime Masterpiece Theater~, where I provide a completely accurate, line-by-line breakdown of Yashahime's many flaws! We begin some two-hundred years before the beginning of Inuyasha, with Kirinmaru plotting his defeat of the G...
Ⓒ Rumiko Takahashi / Shogakukan, Yomiuri TV, Sunrise 2020 “Sesshomaru and Kirinmaru” What They Say: Set in feudal Japan, half-demon twins Towa and Setsuna are separated from each other during a forest fire. While desperately searching for her younger sister, Towa wanders into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan, where she is found by Kagome Higurashi’s brother, Sota, and his family. Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras had reopened, allowing Towa to be reunited with Setsuna, who is now a demon slayer working for Kohaku. But to Towa’s shock, Se...
I got a bad feeling about "Double-Edged Moroha" from the moment it started. You'd think, given that last week's episode randomly decided to break away from the story to have a flashback story time with Riku, that the show would take even a scant minute or two to establish things like context and pacing: Where the girls are. Why they are there. Some vague idea about how long it has been since that godforsaken misadventure with the Rapey Mountain Arsonist. You know, the simple stuff that helps the audience figure out what the hell is going on. But no, it doesn't even take a couple of seconds f...
Jean-Karlo Hi, Readers. I'm Jean-Karlo. This is my associate Nicky. You know, we've had a lot of fun times here on This Week In Anime talking about sapphic librarians, murderers of the pink-haired or Victorian variety, or big orders. But there comes a time where you got to sit back and stop to remember what this "anime" stuff is all about: characters shouting each others' names, colorful demons with weird titles, and fire kitty. Nicky I guess I can say that today we're going back to our roots! Long has been since the day that I used to turn on the TV to Adult Swim with the volume low (so I w...
