Chicago photojournalist Mateo Zapata sees himself, and his community, in Adam Toledo, who was fatally shot by police during a foot chase on March 29. "Adam’s gang-affiliated friends didn’t marginalize him, they accepted him and empowered the beginning of his journey into manhood by associating courage, maturity and leadership with being another 'brother' willing to defend his 'family,'" writes Zapata in an op-ed.
