Warner Bros. is ending development on two DC comics films, New Gods from Ava DuVernay and The Trench from James Wan, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and Variety.
Aquaman director James Wan was producing The Trench Warner Bros. open to revisiting both ideas in the future Ava DuVernay's Aquaman spin-off The Trench have been cancelled at DC Films, Warner Bros. has announced. New Gods — which was to be directed by DuVernay, off a script she co-wrote with comic book writer Tom King — was based on Jack Kirby's characters and would've given us another take on the villain Darkseid alongside Mister Miracle, Big Barda, Granny Goodness and Highfather, all of whom are New Gods from the planet New Genesis. The Trench — a horror-tinged project focused on the deep sea dwelling creatures from Aquaman — as a spinoff even as he continued to prep for Aquaman 2. That sequel, starring Jason Momoa in the title role once again, is still on the way. Both projects were put on hold for various reasons — including an apparent concern that Darkseid, New Gods' villain, shouldn't appear on the big screen again so soon after his appearance in Zack Snyder's Justice League — but neither is entirely dead. The projects could yet find new life further down the road in DC's development schedule...
