The Stand (thing) by Simpleton - Everything2.com

I'M NOT SURE "EPIC" even covers it. At over 450,000 words¹, it's half the length of the King James Bible. It kills off something like five billion people in its opening swipe. It reads like the intersection between Revelation and The Lord of the Rings. And it is horribly, unforgivably engaging.
The Stand begins with an unlocked animal cage, or a weak seal, or a broken vial. The origin is not exactly clear. What is clear is that a disease, a made-to-order disease, has traveled, in the lungs of an AWOL soldier, from a military base in Nevada to a small town in east Texas. It infects 99.44% of the people it comes into contact with, and it kills everyone it infects. And containment is no longer an option.

The Stand: How Ezra Miller's Trashcan Man Differs From Stephen King's Novel

CinemaBlend
With its sixth episode,
The Stand has delivered its most climactic episode yet – a roaring boil following the simmer that was everything building up to it. We finally got our introduction to Ezra Miller as The Trashcan Man, Mother Abigail goes on her pilgrimage, the Boulder Free Zone spy plan completely falls apart, and it all ends with a big bang. “The Vigil” is the most exciting chapter that’s aired thus far – and while most of the action is taken directly from the pages of Stephen King’s book, there are some notable and interesting changes that have been made to change-up the adaptation.

The Stand Episode 3 Review - 'Blank Pages'

Heaven and hell clash as Ouija board prophecies and biblical references start trickling into
The Stand. Back stories continue coming thick and fast as the use of judicious flashback gives audiences a deeper understanding of Nadine Cross. Elsewhere Stu Redman, Fran Goldsmith and Harold Lauder fleetingly cross paths on their way to Boulder. Such is the meandering nature of this expansive narrative that nothing happens hastily. Elements are unpacked, epiphanies metered out with care and threat creeps up unannounced.
Central to that sense of menace is Randall Flagg played with a sinister swagger by Alexander Skarsgard. A dealer, a devil and manipulator of destines, there is a sense of the old-fashioned outlaw in this creation. Making deals, constantly bargaining and never likely to lose out, Randall Flagg personifies everything sordid about humanity. His lascivious intentions work on some, while the restoration of genetic defects tempts another. This embodiment of ill-gotten gains plays fast and loss with human nature, always stacking the odds in his favour. Alexander Skarsgard embraces the seedy side and manifests menace through literal possession. His contribution to ‘Blank Pages’ flies in direct opposition to those selfless acts of salvation metered out by Mother Abagail Freemantle.

Stephen King's New Ending For The Stand Is Primarily For The Benefit Of One Key Character

CinemaBlend
In a certain light, Stephen King’s
The Stand exists as a living document. The post-apocalyptic novel was originally published in 1978, but the author has taken multiple opportunities to change the text. In 1990 an unabridged version of the book was published, adding about 400 pages to the story as it was originally published, and a few years after that he personally took on the task of adapting the material as a six-hour miniseries.
More than a quarter century has passed since that last update, but now King has made further revisions in the form of a new coda that will air as the final episode of the new miniseries on CBS All Access. It’s an exciting development for all Constant Readers, and now making it only more anticipated is the revelation that the character at the center of the new “chapter” will be Fran Goldsmith – played by Odessa Young in the new adaptation.
