Local hero Gary bags the Needles half marathon The 2020 event was cancelled but this year’s five races attracted 700 runners – the most in the Festival of Running’s history Isle of Wight runner, Gary Marshall, won Sunday’s gruelling Needles Half Marathon, with a time of 1:19:11. Gary, of Newport, started racing three years ago, winning the IW Marathon at his first attempt in 2018. Won by four minutes He was pipped at the post in the Needles Half in 2019, but won by four minutes on Sunday, crossing the line with his daughters Rosie and Megan.
