National Popsicle Day, which falls on Sept. 2, honors the tasty summer treat.
Back in 1905, an 11-year-old named Frank Epperson invented the original Popsicle back in his San Francisco Bay area home. After mixing up a powdered soda, he left the drink out overnight with the stirring stick in it. It turned really cold that night and the next morning, Frank found the liquid frozen on the stick. He called his creation an Epsicle, a portmanteau of his name and icicle.
