SANParks says several suspected poachers have been arrested in Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) over the past few days.
A suspected poacher was arrested for fishing for West Coast Rock Lobster during the closed season in Gifkommetjie in the Cape of Good Hope Section of TMNP on Wednesday 12 May
TMNP Park Manager Frans van Rooyen says eight ring nets and one rubber duck were confiscated.
He says the suspects dumped the west coast rock lobsters in the ocean after being chased by the rangers.
According to van Rooyen, several bags of abalone were also found during patrols the next morning.

DURBAN - Suspected poachers have been arrested at the Table Mountain National Park.
TMNP Park Manager, Frans van Rooyen, said on May 12, a man was arrested for wishing for West Coast rock lobster during the closed season in the Cape of Good Hope Section of the Park.
He said eight ring nets and one rubber duck were confiscated. The suspects dumped the west coast rock lobsters in the ocean after being chased by the rangers. During the night, marine law enforcement followed divers in the water and prevented suspicious vehicles from entering the TMNP Marine Protected Area from Simon’s Town to Smuts area. The following morning, while conducting foot patrols, the team found 11 net bags containing 500 abalone, he said.

Cape Town – Rehabilitation work has started in the Table Mountain National Park after the Cape Town fire caused massive destruction when it started on Sunday, April 18.
South African National Parks (SANParks) announced the news on Monday morning.
Firefighters battled the for three days, and successfully contained the Cape Town fire on Tuesday, April 20. Numerous residents had to be evacuated, and some even assisted firefighters to halt in the spread of the fire.
Frans van Rooyen Park Manager at Table Mountain National Park said this means certain areas will remain closed until rehabilitation work is completed particularly in the Rhodes Memorial and Deer Park areas.
