A racecourse has decided not to welcome spectators back just yet. Bosses at Chelmsford City Racecourse have made the decision to hold off on welcoming back crowds until the next easing of restrictions on June 21. Since February, the course had been operating as a vaccination centre, which will continue into the summer. Manager, Fraser Garrity said: "The logistical issues that are involved for Chelmsford City Racecourse at present, in relation to much of our grandstand being out of bounds and other indoor areas having to remain re-purposed to meet ongoing Elite Sport participant segregation requirements, means that we've decided to continue to race without the public in attendance until the next government milestone is hopefully reached on 21st June."

Chelmsford City Racecourse in the Braintree district will open as a mass coronavirus vaccination centre this week A MASS coronavirus vaccination centre is opening in the Braintree district this week, NHS bosses have confirmed. Chelmsford City Racecourse, in Great Leighs, is one of six mass vaccines centres opening in the east from today. Each centre can vaccine hundreds of people a day and thousands each week. This will enable the vaccination programme to expand as further vaccine supplies become available. The six new centres are among a series opening nationally this week as the NHS accelerates the number of sites which can distribute the first dose of the jab.
THE Alastair Farquharson Centre at Thurrock Community Hospital is to become a Covid-19 vaccination centre, it was revealed today. The vaccine centre is one of six announced today, including Chelmsford City Racecourse and Colchester United Football Club and the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend. The new centres are among a series opening nationally this week as the NHS rapidly accelerates the number of sites it can give the crucial first dose of the vaccine. Each of the centres can vaccinate hundreds of people a day and thousands of people each week, enabling the programme to ramp up as more vaccine supplies become available.
